Some people called this 2-story Colonial the “wallpaper house” with a lot of charm and potential!
But, this older house – on a private 2-acre wooded lot at the end of a quiet culda-sac – needed A LOT of work for a family who likes hosting large groups, modern finishes and practicality. We changed the main floor to an open layout without changing the original size and renovated spaces upstairs and down!
The kitchen was completely remodeled with moving electrical and plumbing, installing custom cabinets, a big island, new appliances, Quartz countertops, and modern finishes. It now overlooks the step-down, oversized, vaulted-great room, which used to have green carpet and cherry built-ins, giving it an old golf country club look. But, with a new moody Hague blue and white oak engineered hardwood flooring throughout the main floor – these spaces felt up-to-date!
During the demolition of the great room, we salvaged the fireplace’s original fieldstone rock which was covered up with a formal cherry wood facade. The new paint color and natural stone created the perfect balance of rustic with new and reflected the natural views outside.
A new laundry room, mudroom, and powder room on the main floor are not just functional, but also have a touch of personality. The reclaimed barn wood coat rack and fun wallpapers make these spaces inviting!
We transformed the formal dining room into a stunning butler’s pantry, perfect for hosting, with a charming home office on the other side that overlooks the wooded front yard. The formal living room was also changed into a more relaxed space with a piano and seating area for toys, connected to the new dining room which leads to the deck outside.
We removed the old red carpet from the stairs to restore the original steps and installed a contemporary black iron railing. Upstairs, we transformed the clunky master layout with a walk-in closet, double vanity, corner shower, claw foot tub, and private toilet room. We scraped the ceilings for a smooth finish, painted the woodwork, and replaced all of the carpet. The kid’s and guest bathrooms were also updated with new granite counters, tiles, and paint, and for a cohesive look around the house, we installed modern lighting fixtures, plumbing, and hardware throughout.
The property outside needed some care, too. So, out with the old and in with the new … including planting new shrubs, removing dead trees, re-seeding, painting the exterior a deep navy to match the surroundings, and upgrading the garage doors to a beautiful dark wood tone to complement the paint.
