New hunting shack built with open living, sleeping space, and storage

Four families co-owned hunting land but had nowhere to stay or gather indoors. So, we designed and built a space from the ground up.

It provided 1,200 square feet of living space and 2,000 square feet of seasonal storage for boats, snowmobiles, and campers. The 3-bedroom lodge comfortably sleeps 9, has a full bathroom, a L-shaped kitchen with granite countertops, and a spacious dining and common area. An open drop zone works great for lots of big boots and gear.

We covered the walls and ceiling in pine tongue and groove to create a lodge-like feeling, and we salvaged wood from the dilapidated, abandoned home onsite to use as an accent and honor the land’s history.

The inside design feels grand yet modest. Hunters have plenty of wall space to display trophy mounts with ceiling heights soaring at 14 feet. We chose decor and fixtures to naturally reflect wilderness … animal prints, taxidermy, antler chandeliers, and family history. Even the bedding follows an outdoor theme!

LVP flooring was installed in the community areas for low maintenance and comfort. And, large South and West facing windows provide beautiful sunset views and opportunities to watch wildlife. Outside, we chose black steel siding to blend in the shack with the tree lines.
